Magnetic Door Locks Power Outage

The built in feature of unlocking in the result of a power outage referred to as fail safe was the founding idea of the electromagnet.

Fail secure locks attracts the armature plate leaving the door magnetically locked when power is lost from the device. Exiting while there is a power outage is still possible via the panic bar which is inside the building.

Magnetic locks consist of an electromagnet and armature plate. The electrified portion of the lock is mounted on the door frame and the armature is mounted on the door. As they require power to remain locked this allows them to be fail safe making electromagnetic door locks safe for use as emergency exits. There are two main types of electric locking devices.
